Barcelona have confirmed the departure of Lionel Messi on a free transfer earlier tonight and the player is now being linked with the likes of Paris Saint Germain and Manchester City.

The 34-year-old was expected to renew his contract with the Catalan club but Barcelona are unable to proceed with the renewal because of their financial problems and the Spanish league’s regulations regarding player registration.

According to the latest reports, Paris Saint-Germain feel that signing Messi this summer is unrealistic and they’re focused on renewing the contract of Kylian Mbappe.

The French World Cup winner will be a free agent next summer and PSG seemed desperate to keep him at the club for the long run.

Meanwhile, Manchester City have been tipped as another potential destination for the Barcelona star but the Premier League side have now distanced themselves from Messi’s entourage.

The Premier League champions have just completed £100 million deal to sign Jack Grealish and they are thought to be keen on signing Harry Kane as well.

It is understandable why Messi is being linked with Manchester City and Paris Saint Germain. Only a handful of clubs across Europe can afford his wages.

The player’s representatives are in regular contact with PSG regarding a summer move but the French outfit are suspicious that they are being used to formulate a transfer saga.

It will be interesting to see where Messi ends up eventually.

The Argentine superstar is regarded as the best footballer in history and whoever ends up signing him will have hit a footballing jackpot.
