Antonio Conte wanted a £250m transfer budget to join Manchester United

Antonio Conte-Inter Milan

Manchester United were reportedly keen on appointing Antonio Conte as their manager but the Italian’s transfer demands led to the collapse of the move.

According to 90min, the Red Devils were considering an approach for the former Inter Milan manager after a disappointing start to the Premier League season under Ole Gunnar Solsjkaer.

The Red Devils were recently beaten at home by bitter rivals Liverpool and Manchester City and there were rumours that the club hierarchy could look to bring in a replacement for the Norwegian manager.

It appears that Antonio Conte was open to holding talks with the Premier League club regarding the managerial role but the Red Devils had to back out of the appointment after it emerged that the former Inter Milan manager was demanding £250 million to spend on new players.

The Red Devils had an eventful transfer window in the summer and they managed to sign the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Raphael Varane and Jadon Sancho.

Spending another £250 million in such a short period of time does seem unrealistic and it is no surprise that the Red Devils have decided to opt-out of the appointment.

Meanwhile, Antonio Conte has now joined Tottenham Hotspur and he is expected to be backed heavily by the London club in the transfer market.

It will be interesting to see if Conte can turn Tottenham’s season around and help them finish in the top four this season.

The Italian has managed in the Premier League before with Chelsea and he helped the Blues win the Premier League title.

He also guided Inter Milan to a league title last season and there is no doubt that he is one of the best managers in the world right now.
