Manchester United have completed the signing of Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund, and the young winger is set to return to England this summer.

The former Manchester City player left the Premier League back in 2017 in search of regular first-team football. His decision to leave the Premier League giants was vindicated when he was handed a key role in the Dortmund starting lineup. He developed into one of the best wingers on the planet.

United will be paying around £73 million for Sancho, but Man City will pocket a figure of about £10 million because of a 15% sell-on clause included in his deal when they sold him to Dortmund.

Looking back at his departure, it seems that Sancho’s impatience resulted in his exit from Manchester City back in 2017. According to Goal, the club shook hands with the player over a new contract, but the player was desperate for first-team football.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola rated the player quite highly, but he was reluctant to offer guarantees regarding game time. Eventually, Sancho turned down the offer of a new deal at City and decided to leave for Germany.

Back then, the club chairman Khaldoon Al-Mubarak named Sancho as one of the three players who were destined to make it to the first team. The other two players were Phil Foden and Brahim Diaz.

Foden decided to remain patient, and he has now established himself as a key player for Manchester City.

That said, Sancho’s decision has hardly proven to be a mistake. He has been a massive hit at Borussia Dortmund, and he will be hoping to show his qualities in the Premier League next season.

When Manchester City boss was also asked how would have things unfolded for Sancho had he got the chance to play for City under Pep Guardiola, the Spaniard said, “Nobody knows… Maybe he stays, and we don’t play good or better. Every person decides what life they lead.”
