Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in signing the Brighton defender Tariq Lamptey.

The 21-year-old right-back is regarded as one of the finest young prospects in Premier League football right now, and the player is thought to be rated at around £50 million.

According to a report from the Sun, the youngster has emerged as a key target for the London club, but Antonio Conte might have to wait until the end of the season to sign him.

The Tottenham manager is a fan of the 21-year-old defender who is on the radar of Arsenal as well.

The former Chelsea Academy graduate has established himself as a key player for Brighton, and he has a massive future ahead of him. It is hardly a surprise that the top clubs are already looking to snap him up.

The 21-year-old has the potential to play for a club like Tottenham, and Antonio Conte could help him improve further.

However, it will be interesting to see what happens to Emerson Royal if Tottenham manage to secure the services of Lamptey in the near future.

The Londoners splashed out on the former Barcelona defender at the start of the season. Signing the Brighton defender could send out a wrong statement to the former La Liga defender.

Lamptey is unlikely to be the second choice at Tottenham if the Londoners are paying a fee of around £50 million for him, and therefore Royal might have to accept the role of a squad player.

There is no doubt that a club looking to challenge for the major trophies needs depth and quality in the squad, but Conte will have to ensure that he has a happy dressing room as well.

The likes of Royal and Lamptey will be desperate for regular first-team action, and it remains to be seen how Tottenham handle the situation if the transfer goes through at the end of this season.

Meanwhile, Tottenham are willing to sell Matt Doherty this month after the experienced full-back failed to impress following his move from Wolverhampton Wanderers two years ago.
