Liverpool could lose defenders Neco Williams and Nat Phillips before the January transfer window closes.

According to a report from Sky Sports, Williams could look believe the Merseyside outfit in search of regular game time. The young right-back has played just six games for Liverpool this season, and he needs to play more often in order to continue his development.

The youngster has already forced his way into Wales starting lineup, and the 20-year-old will be hoping to cement his place in the national team squad ahead of the World Cup.

Williams is a talented player who has a big future ahead of him, and it would be surprising if Liverpool decided to cash in on him right now. It would be wise of the Reds to let the player leave on loan to play regular first-team football and continue his development elsewhere.

Getting a look in ahead of Trent Alexander Arnold is a difficult scenario for Williams, and he would benefit from a loan spell.

Meanwhile, Nathaniel Phillips has fallen down the pecking order since the return of Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip from their respective injuries. Furthermore, Liverpool decided to splash out on Ibrahima Konate at the start of the season, and Phillips finds himself behind four central defenders in the pecking order now.

A move away from Anfield would allow him to play regularly at another Premier League club, and it remains to be seen, but Liverpool can find a suitor for him before the window closes.

Sky Sports are claiming that Liverpool want £15 million for Phillips, and an unnamed Premier League club has already had a £7 million offer rejected for the player.

Phillips showed his quality in the Premier League last year during Liverpool’s injury crisis, and he was outstanding against AC Milan in the Champions League earlier this season.

He has the quality to be a regular starter for a mid-table Premier League club, and it remains to be seen whether he can get his move before the window closes.
