Aston Villa 1-2 Brighton: Villa slip to a surprising defeat at home

Ex-Aston Villa manager revealed Man United attempt to sign Jack Grealish

Aston Villa crashed to a 2-1 defeat at home to Brighton and Hove Albion in the Premier League earlier tonight.

Danny Welbeck scored the opening goal of the game on the 12th minute for Brighton and the away side did well to control the game in the first half.

Although Aston Villa enjoyed most of the possession, they failed to make the most of their opportunities.

Jack Grealish was once again the standout player for Aston Villa and he managed to create some wonderful chances for the likes of Watkins and Mings.

Ezri Konsa scored the equaliser for the home side two minutes into the second half but their pressure did not last long. Brighton took the lead once again on the 56th minute through Solly March.

The away side went down to ten men in injury time when Tariq Lamptey picked up his second yellow card of the game but they managed to hold on and pick up all three points eventually.

Lamptey’s challenge resulted in a penalty for Villa but that was overturned by VAR.

Aston Villa will be thoroughly disappointed with their performance here and they would have expected to pick up an easy win at home.

They have been inconsistent in the recent weeks and Dean Smith will have to figure out a way to get his team firing once again.

Aston Villa started the season really well but their form has clearly dipped over the last few weeks.

Meanwhile Brighton will be delighted with such a vital win away from home and they will be hoping to build on this and put together an impressive run of performances in the coming months.
