Aston Villa keen on Juventus midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur

Aston Villa are looking to improve their midfield options before the January transfer window closes, and they have made an approach for the Juventus midfielder Rodrigo Betancur.

According to a report from Daily Mail, the Uruguayan international is a priority target for Aston Villa, who are looking to bring in a holding midfield player this month.

The midfielder has made 18 appearances for Juventus in the league this season. It will be interesting to see whether the Italian giants are willing to cash in on him midway through the season.

Apparently, Juventus are aiming to rebuild their squad over the next few transfer windows, and they are open to offer some of their players.

The Uruguayan international joined Juventus five years ago, and he has won seven major trophies with them so far.

It will be interesting to see if the midfielder is now keen on trying out a new challenge in the Premier League.

Aston Villa have shown impressive ambition in the transfer market over the past year, and they have signed some quality players under Dean Smith and Steven Gerrard.

Villa have started the season in disappointing form, but they have improved immensely since the arrival of Gerrard as their new manager.

The former Liverpool midfielder has already signed the likes of Lucas Digne and Philippe Coutinho this month, and the signing of Betancur could wrap up a highly impressive window for the West Midlands club.

Villa will be hoping to finish as high as possible in the table, and bringing in a quality midfielder will undoubtedly help their cause.

The Premier League side have been linked with a move for the Brighton midfielder Yves Bissouma as well, and therefore the interest in Betancur is hardly a surprise.

It seems that bringing in a quality defensive midfielder remains a priority for Steven Gerrard and Aston Villa, and it remains to be seen who they end up signing eventually.
