Benfica left-back Nuno Tavares set for Arsenal medical ahead of £6.8m summer move.

Nuno Tavares will mark the first summer signing of the Gunners.

Arsenal are closing in on the signing of Nuno Tavares from Benfica.

According to Daily Mail, the Portuguese left-back is set for a medical after the Gunners agreed to a deal worth £6.8m.

The report also adds that the North Londoners will pay a further £1.5m in add ons for the promising youngster.

Tavares will mark Arsenal’s first signing of the summer, while a handful of players have also been linked to Emirates Stadium.

Tavares made his debut with Benfica in the 2019/20 season and was also part of the team that won the Portuguese super cup.

The following season saw the 21-year-old make 19 appearances combinedly in Primeira League and Europa League.

The Gunners have bought Tavares to provide cover for Kieran Tierney. He can also play as a right-back.

Arsenal are also said to be working on the deal for Anderlecht midfielder Sambi Lokonga, having submitted a bid worth £18m plus add-ons to the Belgian outfit.

Lokonga impressed in the recently concluded Belgian Pro League, becoming a staple in the midfield for Anderlecht.

It didn’t take long for him to get the attention of Belgium national team manager Roberto Martinez, who added the 21-year-old to the standby list for the ongoing European Championship.

Brighton’s Ben White continues to be a top target for Mikel Arteta’s side. However, the Seagulls are demanding a transfer fee worth €50m in guaranteed payments.
