Manchester City

After an impressive win over Fulham over the weekend, Pep Guardiola turns his attention to the Champions League as he takes his side to Budapest, where he won the first leg against Gladbach. He will be looking to do enough to qualify for the next round.

The City boss has his side playing one of the best football we have witnessed in recent times, breaking records on their way to record wins. They head into this tie with just one loss from their last 24 games in all competitions.

They have been especially impressive in the Champions League this season and are alongside Bayern Munich, have been installed as the favourites for this year’s showpiece.

With two precious away goals, the Cityzens head into this tie in full control of their UCL destiny and will be confident of adding further gloss to the aggregate scores when they meet again in Budapest.

Possible Manchester City line-ups

Ederson Moraes, Kyle Walker, Ruben Dias, Aymeric Laporte, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Fernandinho, Ilkay Gundogan, Riyad Mahrez, Kevin De Bruyne, Raheem Sterling, Sergio Aguero.

Bayern showed last year. They won everything, right? Barcelona did it as well the other year with Pep [Guardiola] and I think of course everything is possible. We’ve got an unbelievable squad, the best players in the world. Why not?

Oleksandr Zinchenko on Man City’s hopes of winning quadruple

I am older than Mr. Zinchenko. I have more experience and I don’t agree with him. [Oleksandr] Zinchenko just has to be worried about a good game tomorrow and going through. This is the only way. Four titles has never happened before and I think it is not going to happen.

Pep Guardiola, Manchester City Manager

Borussia Mönchengladbach

Gladbach have looked like a shadow of the team that endeared themselves to many neutral fans with their attacking and entertaining brand of football early this season.

Since the announcement of his imminent move to Borussia Dortmund, Marco Rose‘s men have gone off tangent and are struggling badly to recapture the form that made them lovable.

They head into this tie without a win in eight competitive matches. With two away-goals deficit against them, their Champions League journey looks all but over for this season.

They could still qualify though, but against this City side, the task looks increasingly impossible when considering both sides recent fortunes on the pitch.

Possible Gladbach line-ups

Sommer, Stefan Lainer, Matthias Ginter, Nico Elvedi, Oscar Wendt, Denis Zakaria, Florian Neuhaus, Breel Embolo, Lars Stindl, Marcus Thuram, Alassane Plea

Doubtful: Bensebaini (groin), Kramer (ankle), Thuram (muscular)
Misses next match if booked: Lainer, Stindl

It’s always important to assess things properly. We’re not getting the right results, but it helps to go into the details and analyse the basics. We have to change small things to help us get back to winning ways…

Despite being a midweek fixture, there’s enough time to recover between games. Ramy Bensebaini and Christoph Kramer are back in team training today and we haven’t had any new problems…

Pep Guardiola is a fantastic character. He has had a massive influence on world football over the past years. He’s passionate about things beyond football too and is an incredible human being…

When Man. City have the ball, it’s incredibly hard for any opponent. Their gegenpressing after losing possession is world-class and they move the ball forward very quickly. Pep has them playing almost total football…
