Chelsea still in contact with Sevilla over the transfer of Jules Kounde

Barcelona want to sign Sevilla youngster Jules Kounde

The French defender continues to be a top target for Chelsea.

Chelsea continue to chase Sevilla defender Jules Kounde as they are looking for defensive reinforcements.

The young French defender emerged as a top target for the Blues weeks ago after reports stated the personal terms had been agreed.

However, their pursuit appeared to slow down when Kurt Zouma – who was deemed the makeweight in a deal to bring Kounde – rejected a move to Sevilla due to his desire to stay in the Premier League.

West Ham have shown interest in the 25-year-old and he is likely to be sanctioned a departure if the Blues manage to sign Kounde.

According to a new report, the Blues haven’t dropped their interest in the youngster as they are in direct contact with Sevilla regarding a summer move.

It is also added that they are expected to come up with an improved bid next week. The Spanish club are said to be demanding a fee in the region of 80m euros and it remains to be seen whether the Blues can match it before the transfer window closes.

Kounde’s quick rise to fame in La Liga last season saw him catch the attention of Europe’s top clubs. The 22-year-old also made it to the France national team for the Euros 2020.

Elsewhere at Stamford Bridge, Thomas Tuchel’s side are off to a brilliant start in the Premier League, picking up back to back wins.

Trevoh Chalobah, the Blues’ academy defender, who made his debut against Crystal Palace, showed a lot of promise by putting on a stellar display.
