Cristiano Ronaldo has drawn criticism from some sections of Manchester United fans after leaving the club’s friendly with Rayo Vallecano early.

The Portugal international started the Red Devils’ friendly match with Rayo Vallecano but was substituted after 45 minutes as Manchester United looked to get themselves back in the game.

However, according to reports by The Times, Ronaldo did not take the substitution lightly and left Old Trafford before the game ended.

The reported early exit comes amid uncertainty over his Old Trafford future with the former Real Madrid man desperate to leave the club as United have no Champions League football this season.

According to The Times, Ronaldo received a rapturous reception from United fans who were outside of the ground when he was about to leave. However, the forward was said to be glum-faced as he briskly made his way to his car.

Manchester United and Erik ten Hag did not address the matter after the game as the club had already decided that the Dutchman would not hold a post-match press conference.

The report also adds that the club declined to comment when asked if Ronaldo had permission to leave the stadium before the end of the match.

The action by Ronaldo caused a stir on social media with some club supporters slamming the Portugal international for his attitude.

“’The disrespect this man shows, not even [Paul] Pogba was this disrespectful,” one United supporter said.

While another wrote: “Can’t stress how bad of a look this is by Cristiano, both in terms of professionalism but also as an example to the youngsters who all played today. Don’t care who you are. Bin.”

“Probably the last time we’ll see him in Old Trafford, which is a shame to say,” another fan added.

While one simply added, “Unacceptable Behaviour if we’re being honest.”

Despite Ronaldo’s desire to leave, Manchester United shared a video on their Twitter handle before the match of him entering the stadium captioned: “Cristiano – arriving at Old Trafford.”
