Everton are set to appoint Frank Lampard as the long term replacement for manager Rafael Benitez.

The Spaniard was recently relieved of his duties after a dismal run of form in the Premier League.

The Toffees had lost nine of their last 13 Premier League matches before Benitez was sacked, and it will be interesting to see if the former Chelsea manager can turn things around at Goodison Park.

Lampard had a meeting with club owner Farhad Moshiri on Friday, and he impressed the club hierarchy with his plants and proposal.

According to a report from the Guardian, Lampard is now expecting to be offered the position, and he will take over from the current caretaker manager Duncan Ferguson.

Manager Vitor Pereira also met the Everton owner in London on Friday, but it seems that Lampard has made a lasting impression.

The former England international midfielder did a reasonably good job at Derby County before moving on to his former club Chelsea.

Lampard helped nurture the young players at Stamford Bridge before he was replaced by Thomas Tuchel, and he will be desperate to prove his quality in the Premier League once again.

The Everton job will be a massive challenge for Lampard, and it remains to be seen whether he can succeed at Merseyside.

Everton are going through a rough patch right now, and they will be expected to finish in the top half by the end of the season.

The Toffees have several injuries, and they have lost a key player like Lucas Digne this month.

With the transfer window nearing its conclusion, it does not seem like Frank Lampard will be able to bring in reinforcements this month, and he will have to make do with the current options at the club.
