Burkina Faso

Burkina Faso will look to continue their remarkable run in the 2022 AFCON when they play Tunisia on Saturday.

The West African side began the group stage of the tournament with a 2-1 defeat at the hands of host nation Cameroon before narrowly defeating Cape Verde 1-0 in the second group game, thanks to Hassane Bande’s first-half strike.

They now secured passage to the round of 16 with a 1-1 draw with Ethiopia, when Cyrille Bayala’s first-half opener was cancelled out by Getaneh Kebede.

But Les Etalons then needed penalties to see off a spirited Gabon side in the round of 16.

Kamou Malo’s side took the lead through Bertrand Traore’s first-half strike, but Adama Guira scored an own goal to level matters. And with nothing separating the sides after 120 minutes, the game progressed to penalties where the Stallions secured a 7-6 victory in a nervy encounter.

They will now be looking to progress to the semi-finals for the first time in five years.

A single loss from their last ten games will give them the much-needed confidence going into this fixture.

Tunisia

After defeating tournament favourites Nigeria in the last round, Tunisia will look to go one step further in the competition when they face Burkina Faso in Garoua.

Despite being clearly the weaker side in the game against the Super Eagles, Mondher Kebaier’s men stole the win in the encounter at the Roumde Adjia Stadium, courtesy of a goal by 31-year-old forward Youssef Msakni.

The Eagles of Carthage would count themselves lucky to be in this stage of the tournament after a disappointing run in the group stages, where they finished as one of the four best third-placed sides after managing just three points from their three games in Group F.

But with a place in the last four up for grabs, Kebaier’s men, who are making their 15th consecutive appearance at the tournament, will be desperate to win. They will also hope to go all the way and repeat their 2004 run when they made it to the final and defeated Morocco 2-1 to clinch their first continental title.

Possible Tunisia starting line-ups

Bechir Ben Saïd (GK); Mohamed Dräger, Montassar Talbi, Bilel Ifa, Ali Maâloul; Ellyes Skhiri, Aïssa Laïdouni, Ghailene Chaalali; Wahbi Khazri, Seifeddine Jaziri, Youssef Msakni.
