Harry Kane has won the 2020/21 Premier League golden boot. The Tottenham striker scored in his side’s final game of the season—a win against Leicester City to take home the gong for the third time in his career, matching Alan Shearer’s record in the process.
The 27-year-old finished the season with 23 goals, one ahead of Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, who could not score in his side’s win over Crystal Palace.
The England striker has passed the 20-goal mark for the fifth time in the last seven Premier League seasons. He has won the golden boot on two previous occasions—2015/16 and 2016/17.
Alongside being the top scorer in the league, Kane also provided 14 assists for his teammates this season, making him the player with the most assists in the league this campaign. In doing so, he became the first player in 22 years to win the award of most goals and assists in a single Premier League campaign.
The award means that only Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has won more golden boot awards than Kane.
Overall, the striker ended the season with over 33 goals and 17 assists in all club competitions for this season.
Great to get a win to finish the season. Been a tough season for lots of reasons but thanks for all the support it’s always appreciated and thanks for the fans awards.
Kane has been the subject of transfer speculation this season and has made his intention of leaving Tottenham at the end of the season known to the club. Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United are credited with interest and are leading the race to sign the England captain.
In late 2019, Jose Mourinho told Harry Kane - “By being with me, I can make you explode” 2021 - Kane is the first player to win the Golden boot and Playmaker award in the same season in PL history.
