James Rodriguez completes Everton exit

James Rodriguez-Everton

James Rodriguez has completed his transfer away from Premier League club Everton and he has joined Qatari club Al Rayyan who are managed by former Manchester United defender Laurent Blanc.

The 30-year-old Colombian midfielder made an impressive start to life in the Premier League but his form dipped sharply and he has not been able to recover since.

According to Sky Sports, the midfielder travelled to the Middle East at the weekend where the transfer window is still open until the end of the month and completed the formalities of the transfer.

Everton appointed Spanish manager Rafael Benitez at the start of the season and Rodriguez failed to earn the trust of the Goodison boss and he has now left the club without playing a single game under Benitez.

The former Real Madrid midfielder was the highest-paid player in Everton’s history when he joined the club on a two-year deal back in 2020 under Carlo Ancelotti.

The midfielder publicly revealed a few months ago that the only reason he is playing for Everton is because of Ancelotti and the Italian’s departure from Goodison Park left him considering his future at the Merseyside club.

The player was linked with moves back to Portugal and the Spanish league as well earlier on in the summer but his suitors failed to agree on a deal with Everton.

Meanwhile, the Toffees have started the season in reasonably good form and they have picked up 10 points from five Premier League matches.
