Leeds United are monitoring the situation with Red Bull Leipzig midfielder Tyler Adams after his club said he could leave.

The Premier League side are looking for an extra midfielder to cover for Kalvin Phillips, who is likely to depart for Manchester City this summer.

The Lilly Whites are resigned to losing Philips and have identified Adams as the player to cover for the comparative England man.

The 23-year-old was a fairly regular feature for RB Leipzig in the 2021/22 campaign as they finished fourth in Bundesliga to qualify for the Champions League.

He is also a player well known to Leeds manager Jesse Marsch after Marsch’s time in the Bundesliga with Leipzig. The United States international will fancy the chance of playing for his former boss.

Marsch has already taken advantage of his links to bring in Brenden Aaronson, Rasmus Kristensen and Marc Roca.

21-year-old USA international Aaronson, and 24-year-old Kristensen, both signed for Leeds this summer, having worked with the American manager Jesse Marsch at Austrian champions Red Bull Salzburg.

He could now look to use his links once again to lure Adams to the club to bolster the midfield, especially given Phillip’s potential departure to join Premier League champions Manchester City.

According to reports in Sportsmail, Kalvin Philips is drawing interest from both City and rivals Manchester United. But it appears that Pep Guardiola’s side have edged ahead in the race for his signature.
