Gerard Pique Massive changes needed at Barcelona

Pique’s grand gesture provides a massive boost to Ronald Koeman

Barcelona star defender Gerard Pique has reportedly agreed to take a significant pay cut to help register new signings, confirmed by the club.

Barca have been struggling to register the likes of Memphis Depay, Eric Garcia and Sergio Aguero, and the reserves striker Ray Manaj in La Liga due to the salary cap issues, but Pique’s act has now allowed them to do so.

The Catalan club also confirmed that talks are progressing with Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba over lowering the wages.

Ronald Koeman would be relieved to have all the first-team players at his disposal ahead of Sunday’s La Liga opening game against Real Sociedad.

A statement from Barca read: “FC Barcelona is able to register Memphis, Eric Garcia and Rey Manaj to play in the Spanish Liga de Futbol Profesional. This has been made possible thanks to an agreement with Gerard Piqué whereby the Barça second captain’s salary has been substantially reduced.

“This means that all of the first team players will be available for selection by Ronald Koeman for this Sunday’s opening Liga fixture against Real Sociedad.”

“The club is also continuing to work with two of the other captains, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba, to adapt their salaries to the club’s current situation. It must be noted that both players are totally and utterly willing to cooperate.

Roberto wants to renew his contract with a lower salary

Sergi Roberto has opened up about his future, stating that he is willing to renew his contract on lower terms.

The Spanish defender will have his contract run out next summer but wants to commit his future at the Nou Camp.

Roberto said: “What we feel is that a lot of people talk without knowing things. I, for example, am waiting for an offer from the club. My situation is different. I’m out of contract this season, and I’ll renew at a low price. We are helping. I don’t understand the criticism we’ve got. It has no sense.”
