As per the club’s official website, Liverpool defender Nathaniel Phillips has joined Bournemouth on loan until the end of the season.

The 24-year-old has struggled to hold down a regular starting berth at the Merseyside club this season, and a loan move will benefit his development.

Phillips played regularly for Liverpool last season, and he was outstanding for the Reds.

The defender was linked with a move away from Liverpool permanently at the start of the season, but he ended up staying at the club. Liverpool decided to sign French defender Ibrahima Konate which pushed the 24-year-old further down the pecking order at Anfield.

The defender is in desperate need of regular playing time, and a move to the Championship could help him continue his development.

Phillips has proven his quality in the Premier League with Liverpool, and there is no doubt that he has the potential to develop into a reliable Premier League defender in the future.

The defender will be hoping to impress with Bournemouth for the rest of the season and then secure a permanent move to a Premier League club next season.

The 24-year-old was instrumental in helping Liverpool secure Champions League qualification last season. The Reds had a major injury crisis at the back last year, and the likes of Phillips and Rhys Williams had to step in and get the job done for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

The defender has previously had a loan spell with German club Stuttgart where he helped them secure promotion to the Bundesliga.

Bournemouth are pushing for promotion this season, and it will be interesting to see if Phillips can secure a Premier League return for the Cherries.

Liverpool have reportedly received a £1.5 million loan fee for the defender.
