Liverpool have now joined the race to sign the Italian international Manuel Locatelli.

The 23-year-old Sassuolo midfielder was outstanding for Italy in the European Championships earlier this summer, and his performances have attracted the attention of several top clubs.

Juventus and Arsenal are keen on signing the £34 million rated midfielders this summer.

According to reports, the Italian international prefers to join Juventus this summer, and his club are open to selling to their Serie A rivals as well.

Juventus are closing in on a deal for the midfielder this week, and the Premier League club will now have to act quickly if they want to secure the defensive midfielder’s services.

Sassuolo chief Giovanni Carnevali has revealed that they are set to meet with Juventus for Locatelli this week. They are happy to sell the midfielder to the Turin club, provided the right offer is presented.

The Sassuolo chief has also confirmed that Arsenal have made a bid to sign the midfielder this summer, but another English club is in the race as well.

Sassuolo’s CEO, Giovanni Carnevali, said on Thursday: “Tomorrow, we’ll have direct contact with Juventus for Locatelli. He wants to join Juve. We’d be happy to sell Manuel (Locatelli) to Juve… but they need to pay the right fee. Arsenal made a bid to sign him, and also a new English club is now in the race”.

Liverpool could use some midfield reinforcements after the departure of Gini Wijnaldum, and Locatelli could prove to be a quality long term addition.

The 23-year-old Italian can operate as a central midfielder and a defensive midfielder, and he could be a handy option for Jurgen Klopp next season.
