Manchester City are interested in signing the Chelsea defender Reece James this summer.

According to the Athletic, Pep Guardiola is a huge admirer of the 21-year-old and the Premier League champions could make their move to sign him this summer.

James is a key player for Chelsea, and he has managed to establish himself as a regular starter for them over the past two seasons.

Manchester City already have Kyle Walker as their first-choice right-back, and it will be interesting to see how they accommodate James if they manage to sign the Chelsea player.

The 21-year-old will require regular game time in order to continue his development and fulfil his potential. A move to Manchester City might not be ideal for him at this stage of his career.

Furthermore, Chelsea are unlikely to strengthen their direct rivals by selling them a quality player, and Manchester City will have to pay well over the odds to tempt the Blues.

It seems that the Premier League champions are keen on snapping up a few homegrown players this summer, and they have been heavily linked with the likes of Jack Grealish and Harry Kane as well.

Meanwhile, Chelsea have been linked with a move for the Inter Milan defender Achraf Hakimi, and if the Blues manage to sign the Moroccan, it could help City lure James away from Stamford Bridge.

Hakimi is one of the best fullbacks in world football, and James will struggle to get regular game time if he moves to Chelsea.
