Manchester United picked up a thumping 3-1 win against Burnley as Mason Greenwood stole the headlines with a match-winning brace.

Clarets almost stunned the hosts inside 18 seconds after Chris Wood found the back of the nets, only to be ruled out offside.

United came close on a couple of occasions but only to be denied by goalkeeper Bailey Peacock Farrell, who would go on to save Bruno Fernandes’ striker in the second half.

The hosts started on the front foot after the break, with Mason Greenwood providing the breakthrough.

However, the lead didn’t last long as James Tarkowski levelled the score for the visitors in no time.

Greenwood managed to put the Red Devils ahead by completing his brace in the 84th minute before substitute Edinson Cavani found the nets in stoppage time.

The Red Devils have reduced their points gap to eighth with leaders Manchester City. The win also marked United’s first against Burnley at Old Trafford since 2015.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would be a happy figure to see his side pick up a convincing win, days after booking the place in the semi-finals of the Europa League, where they would face Roma.

Greenwood’s progress has also been a huge factor in recent weeks for United as he had scored the winning goal against Tottenham last week. The 20-year-old has taken his tally to five goals in the Premier League this term, adding to it two assists.

United’s focus will be on winning the Europa League while they will also aim for a good finish in the league, with Man City holding a firm grip in the title race.
