Manchester United closing in on the capture of Frenkie De Jong

Frenkie de Jong-Barcelona

Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong is closing in on a move to Manchester United

The Premier League side have been linked with the Dutchman all summer, and it seems that a breakthrough is now close.

According to Sky Sports, the Red Devils could sign the player for a fee of around 65 million Euros.

There have been rumours that Barcelona are demanding a package of around 85 million Euros, and it seems that a compromise will have to be reached between the two parties.

De Jong had a mixed time under Xavi Hernandez last season, and it will be interesting to see if he can adapt to the Premier League and make an immediate impact once the move goes through.

The Dutch international will reunite with former manager Erik Ten Hag at the Old Trafford club. Ten Hag worked with De Jong during their time together at Ajax, and the midfielder helped the Dutch outfit reach the semi-finals of the Champions League in 2019.

Manchester United desperately needs reinforcements, and De Jong could be a key player for them.

He was regarded as a world-class talent during his time at Ajax, and he is still quite young. Ten Hag could help him fulfil his potential in England, having previously nurtured him into an elite talent.

Meanwhile, the Red Devils will not be able to offer him Champions League football next season, and it remains to be seen whether that is a deterrent in any potential move.

Barcelona are in desperate need of funds, and De Jong is a major sellable asset for them. They will be banking on his transfer to get their finances in order.

The Dutchman is expected to partner the likes of Bruno Fernandes and Donny van de Beek in the middle of the park at Old Trafford next season. It will be interesting to see if he can guide them back into the top four.
