Rangnick identifies three midfield targets

Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick has identified the club’s midfield as a major area of weakness and he has suggested the club scouts to look at potential options in the transfer market.

According to ESPN, the 63-year-old German manager has identified the likes of Amadou HaidaraJude Bellingham and Kalvin Phillips as targets for the Premier League club.

The likes of Nemanja Matic and Scott McTominay have been quite underwhelming for Manchester United this season and they have had to rely on the likes of Fred and Paul Pogba.

It is imperative for the Old Trafford outfit to add more quality and depth to the position and the likes of Haidara, Bellingham and Phillips could prove to be outstanding additions.

The RB Leipzig midfielder would probably be the cheapest option out of the three and he has impressed thoroughly in the Bundesliga in recent months.

Phillips has been a key player for Leeds and England over the past year and he has the potential to develop into a top-class Premier League midfielder under the management of Rangnick.

As far as Jude Bellingham is concerned, the talented young England international has the potential to develop into a world-class footballer and he has already shown his quality in the German league with Borussia Dortmund.

The Bundesliga outfit will not want to lose him anytime soon and they are likely to demand a club record fee from Manchester United if the Red Devils come calling.

Rangnick opens up on Paul Pogba’s future

Meanwhile, the interim Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick has opened up on the future of Paul Pogba.

The World Cup winner has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford for months now and the German has now revealed that he will not try to convince the French international to stay at the club beyond this season.

Pogba is nearing the end of his contract at the Premier League club and he will be a free agent at the end of this season.

Rangnick believes that playing for a club like Manchester United should be a privilege and any player not willing to commit themselves to the cause at Old Trafford should be allowed to move on.

The Manchester United manager said to Guardian: “I wouldn’t say he’s not worth keeping. But players have to want to play for a big club like Manchester United. If a player does not want to play for Manchester United in the medium or long term, I don’t think it makes sense to convince him to change his mind.

“But let’s wait and see, I have spoken with him [Pogba] for 15 minutes over the phone a few days ago [Tuesday]. Let’s have him come back, get fit, train with the team and see where we stand, how the team has developed by then.

“He can be an important player but this is true for all the other players we have. I’m not just the coach of Paul Pogba, I’m also the coach of all the other players and my ambition is to make them better, improve each individual player, and this is only possible by improving the performance of the whole team.”
