Newcastle United have been linked with a host of managerial names since their Saudi-backed takeover and the latest name linked with the move to St James’s Park is that of the former Newcastle manager Rafael Benitez.

According to Football Insider, the Premier League club have not given up hope of bringing the Spaniard back to the club. Apparently the 61 year old is a favoured option for the new owners to take over as the club’s next manager.

Benitez did an exceptional job at St James’ Park during his first spell with Newcastle and the Spaniard is adored by the fan base.

The former Liverpool manager is currently employed by Everton and it remains to be seen whether Newcastle can lure him away from Goodison Park in the near future. Everton have done reasonably well under him without any significant backing in the transfer market.

Newcastle are in desperate need of a managerial appointment and they will have to bring in someone who can transform the side immediately and help them beat the drop this season.

The Magpies have started the season in very poor form and they currently find themselves 19th in the league table, in danger of relegation.

The new owners have already relieved Steve Bruce of his duties and assistant manager Graeme Jones is currently the interim boss.

In theory, Rafa Benitez would be an exceptional appointment for Newcastle and he could make an immediate impact at the club. The Spaniard knows the club well from his previous spell and he is a proven winner across multiple leagues.
