Newcastle United are reportedly keen on improving their defensive options, and they have identified the Fiorentina defender Nikola Milenkovic as a potential target.

According to a report from the Sun, Eddie Howe is looking to bring in two centre backs this month, and the Serbian is one of them.

The report adds that the Premier League side must pay a fee of around £37.5 million for the 24 year old Serbian international.

Milenkovic has been an outstanding servant for Fiorentina since joining the club in 2017, and he would be an exceptional acquisition for Newcastle in the long run.

The 24-year-old is yet to reach his peak, and he will improve further with experience and game time.

The defender certainly has the potential to justify the reported £37.5 million price tag, but it remains to be seen whether Newcastle are willing to stump up that kind of cash for his services this month.

The Magpies have already signed the likes of Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood, and it remains to be seen whether they can get in another centre back before the transfer window closes.

Milenkovic has been linked with a move to the Premier League since the summer, and it will be interesting to see where he ends up.

The 6ft 5 in centre back can operate as a right-back as well, and his versatility will be an added bonus for Eddie Howe and Newcastle if they manage to secure his services.

Newcastle United have been linked with the likes of Sven Botman and Diego Carlos in recent weeks as well, and the Magpies have reportedly already submitted a bid for the Sevilla defender.
