‘Probably already wrapped that deal up’- Manchester City expected to sign Erling Haaland in January

Erling Haaland-Borussia Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League for months now and it appears that Manchester City could have an agreement in place to sign the Norwegian striker in January.

According to the former Leeds United and Southampton midfielder Carlton Palmer (via Manchester Evening News), City have probably already wrapped up the transfer for the January transfer window and he would be surprised if the Dortmund striker is not at Etihad at the start of next year.

It is no secret that Manchester City need to sign a top-class striker as a long term replacement for Sergio Aguero and the 20-year-old is one of the best in the world.

Apparently, Haaland has a clause in his contract with the Bundesliga club which allows him to leave for a fee of around £70 million next summer and it seems that Manchester City are willing to pay a premium to snap him up midway through the season.

According to Palmer, City could spend around £100 million on the Norwegian striker.

He said: “I think they’ll have probably already wrapped that deal up myself for the January transfer window. I’d be surprised if the Haaland deal’s not done.

“Knowing that he’s going to be available at the end of the season, they might even give 100 million for Haaland so Dortmund get an extra £40m to let him out at Christmas.”

The Premier League champions did all they could to sign Harry Kane during the summer transfer window but they failed to agree on a deal with Tottenham.

Haaland would probably be a much better option in the long run and it remains to be seen whether the Etihad outfit can get the deal done.
