Wolves 2-1 Arsenal: Luiz, Leno sent off, Arsenal crash to a defeat despite early Pepe goal

David Luiz-Arsenal

Wolverhampton Wanderers picked up a morale-boosting 2-1 win over Arsenal in the Premier League earlier tonight.

The Gunners had an impressive start to the game with Bukayo Saka hitting the crossbar and then having a goal ruled out for offside early on in the first half.

The Londoners took the lead on the 32nd minute when Nicolas Pepe managed to beat two Wolverhampton players before curling a ferocious shot past Rui Patricio.

The home side got back into the game in the stoppage time of the first half when David Luiz was shown a straight red card for his challenge on Willian Jose in the penalty area.

Ruben Neves scored from the resulting penalty and Wolves turned the game on its head three minutes into the second half when Joao Moutinho scored with a thundering effort into the top corner.

Things went from bad to worse for the Gunners when goalkeeper Bernd Leno was sent off on the 72nd minute after a deliberate handball outside the box.

The win takes Wolverhampton Wanderers to 13th in the League table and they are now just four points behind 10th placed Arsenal.

The Gunners have been in impressive form in recent weeks and Arteta will be thoroughly disappointed with the performance tonight.

It was their first defeat in eight matches and they could have easily moved into the top six with a win tonight.
