Leipzig 2-0 Werder: Sabitzer, Olmo score to put RB to the top

Freiburg 1-1 Leipzig Leipzig stumbled for the third game in a row

Leipzig moved top of the Bundesliga table with a two nil-win over SV Werder Bremen on Saturday afternoon with two first half goals from Marcel Sabitzer and Daniel Olmo.

The hosts buoyed by their impressive win over Manchester United in their midweek outing picked up their seventh win of the season to climb to the top of the table temporarily with Bayern not playing until later in the day..

Julian Nagelsmann’s side started the better of the two sides and could have taken the lead in the tenth minute when Marcel Sabitzer found the bottom left corner after being found by Yussuf Poulsen, only for Jiří Pavlenka in the Bremen goal to make a smart stop.

The home team continued to look the better side but could not find a way past the Bremen defence until the 25th minute when Yussuf Poulsen drew a foul from Ludwig Augustinsson to hand his side a chance from 12 yards. Marcel Sabitzer kept his cool to convert, sending his shot to the bottom left corner of Pavlenka’s goal.

The hosts doubled their lead in the 43rd minute, this time Danny Olmo finding the back of the net after a clever dribble on the edge of the box following a quick Leipzig passing move.

The goal proved to be their last for the day as the rest of the match played out with little goal-mouth action, meaning that Leipzig have now won all six of their home games this season.

The hosts will face Julian Nagelsmann’s former side Hoffenheim in their next Bundesliga action, while Bremen will host Dortmund.
