Atalanta failed to find the nets for the first time since November.
Atalanta have been held to a goalless draw by bottom dwellers Genoa, with both sides sharing a point in the end.
Gasperini’s men were coming off an emphatic 4-1 win against Benevento – prior to it, two more wins with bigger margins against Parma and Sassuolo – and the contest was touted as more like a cakewalk, considering both Atalanta’s depth in attack and Genoa’s fair share of struggles this season.
However, things didn’t go in their way as Atalanta picked up a draw despite, as expected, enjoying more possession.
The visitors were quite involved in the first half, with Eldor Shomuldov testing Atalanta keeper Pierluigi Gollini on a couple of occasions.
Atalanta were desperate to find a breakthrough in the second half and hence they created quite a few chances.
Both wingbacks Hans Hatboer and Robin Gosens had their chances go begging, with the former one hitting the woodwork while the latter tested Genoa keeper Mattia Perin but to no avail.
Atalanta have failed to score a goal since their defeat to Verona in November.
Nonetheless, the Bergamo outfit have continued their undefeated streak in the last five games.
Atalanta could have leapfrogged Juventus in the process to the fourth position in the table if they hadn’t dropped points against Genoa. They are currently sixth in the table, only two points clear of the third-place side Napoli.
Atalanta will face Udinese on Wednesday in their next league fixture.
