Chiellini to sign a new Juventus deal
Italian international Giorgio Chiellini has confirmed that he is ready to commit his future to Juventus.
The experienced centre back is currently a free agent after his contract expired on the 30th of June, but the 36-year-old is eager to continue at the Turin club, and he is set to re-sign with them next week.
Chiellini has been a reliable presence at the back for Serie A giants over the last 17 years, and he is looking forward to winning more trophies with them.
Chiellini was outstanding for his country in the European Championships earlier this summer, and he helped them win the tournament with crucial performances in the knockout rounds of the competition.
The Juventus fans will be delighted with the 36-year-old’s decision to continue at the club.
Apart from his quality as a footballer, his winning experience and leadership could prove to be invaluable for Juventus next season.
Chiellini said: “I want to lift some more trophies because it just makes you hungrier to do it again – and wearing the Juventus jersey without the Scudetto symbol on the chest represents an extra motivation,” the centre-back said at a ceremony in Livorno.
“I need a few more days to rest and recover from the chaos of the last month, but on Monday, I’ll be in Turin and happy to get started again.”
Hamza Rafia tests positive for Covid-19
Meanwhile, Juventus youngster Hamza Rafia has tested positive for the Coronavirus, forcing the entire senior squad to go into isolation ahead of their Joan Gamper trophy clash with Barcelona next weekend.
The youngster will now quarantine away from the rest of the squad for the next 10 days, and he will return to the pitch after a negative test.
As far as the Barcelona game is concerned, the match should go ahead as planned unless the situation changes after the next set of medical checks.
