Manchester United defender Chris Smalling was on loan at Roma this past season and the Italians have been linked with a permanent move for the player.
However, it seems that Roma’s financial situation could give their rivals the chance to snap up the player instead.
Juventus are thought to be keen on the player now and they are prepared to offer winger Federico Bernardeschi to Manchester United as part of a deal to sign Chris Smalling this summer.
It will be interesting to see if the Old Trafford outfit are willing to accept the deal.
Smalling is unwanted at the club and United will want to cash in on him. Perhaps a cash only deal would suit them better.
That said, the Premier League side could use more depth in their wide areas and Bernadeschi wouldn’t be a bad addition.
He would add quality and depth to the side which will help Solskjaer in dealing with the fixture congestion next season.
Manchester United will play Champions League football next season and they will have a lot of games on their plate. Solskjaer will need a big squad to cope with the fixtures.
Bernadeschi is not a key player for Juventus and if United can offer him a promising role in their side, he is likely to be tempted to join them as well.
It remains to be seen whether the two clubs can now work out a swap deal involving the defender and the winger.
Meanwhile, Roma will have to sort out their issues and move for Smalling swiftly if they want to secure his services.
