Many Inter Milan players are expected to leave after Antonio Conte’s departure.
Recent reports confirmed that Antonio Conte is set to leave Inter Milan by mutual consent, days after leading the Nerazzurri to the Scudetto.
The Italian was understood to be unhappy about the Inter owner’s plans to reduce the club wage bill and generate as much money by selling players.
Conte, who believes Inter can compete at the highest level by only spending much on the signings, has decided to part ways after spending just two seasons at San Siro.
According to a new report, the Italian’s departure could lead to an exodus of players, primarily Romelu Lukaku.
Lukaku joined Inter at the behest of Conte in the summer of 2019 and has since established as one of the top strikers in Europe. The Belgian centre-forward was pivotal behind Inter winning their first Serie A title in over ten years, racking up 24 goals and 11 assists in the process – which makes the player with the most goal contributions in the Italian top-flight.
The former Manchester United man has been heavily linked with a return to Premier League, with Manchester City and Chelsea keeping close tabs on him.
There is a big chance for the Belgian hitman to leave Nerazzurri this summer after Conte’s departure.
Lukaku posted an emotional message to Conte on Instagram: We spoke for the first time in 2014, and we have had a bond ever since,”
“We had many moments to work together, but only God knows why it never happened earlier.
You came at the right time and basically changed me as a player and made me even stronger mentally, and more importantly, we won together!
“Winning is all that matters to you, and I’m glad that I have had you as a coach.
I will keep your principles for the rest of my career (physical preparation, mental and just the drive to win….”
Other players who are expected to leave are Achraf Hakimi and Lautaro Martinez. In Conte’s system, Hakimi was a key cog, and the Morrocan is wanted by Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.
Martinez was close to joining Barcelona last summer, and Conte’s exit now leaves his future up in the air.
