Real Madrid picked up a 4-1 win over Deportivo Alaves in the Spanish league earlier tonight.

The Spanish giants missed out on the title last season and they will be desperate to secure domestic glory this time around.

Carlo Ancelotti will be delighted with his team’s start the league campaign and here at Anytime football, we look at the three major talking points from tonight’s La Liga contest.

David Alaba debut

The Austrian signed for Real Madrid on a free transfer earlier this summer and he produced an outstanding display for his new club.

The Austrian started at left-back position. It seemed like David Alaba has been at Real Madrid for ages and he managed to adapt to the Spanish league seamlessly.

On few occasions, he left the Real Madrid defence vulnerable, and Real Madrid will be tested against tougher opponents in the coming days.

The former Bayern Munich defender was quite comfortable on the night and he’s likely to improve with time.

Gareth Bale and Eden Hazard

The Welsh international was given a start by Carlo Ancelotti tonight but he struggled to make his mark on the game.

On the other hand, Eden Hazard looked quite sharp and in good condition. The Belgian international put on a strong display for the Spanish outfit.

Hazard will be hoping to build on this and establish himself as a key player for Real Madrid in the coming months.

Karim Benzema – the best player on the pitch

The French international was Real Madrid’s most effective player last season and he has started the new season in a similar fashion.

Karim Benzema managed to hit the ground running with two goals against Deportivo Alaves and Real Madrid will be hoping for more of the same from their talisman in the coming months.

Benzema will be the key to Real Madrid’s ambitions this season and it will be interesting to see if he can continue in his rich vein of form.
