Based on current performance, Manchester City have been ranked as the best football club in the world by a supercomputer.

The Premier League champions were awarded a soccer power index score of 92.4 by FiveThirtyEight.

The SPI is calculated using a points system based on the results. Three points are awarded for a win, one for a draw and none for a loss.

Pep Guardiola’s side managed to win the Premier League and the Carabao cup last season, and despite their defeat in the Champions League final, they are at the top of the list.

German champions Bayern Munich are second in the rankings after their domestic success last year.

Champions League winners Chelsea are third with the likes of Barcelona and Liverpool comprising of the top five.

Spanish giants Real Madrid have surprisingly dropped to 7th in the standings, and Manchester United are eighth after finishing second in the Premier League last year.

The likes of Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint Germain are in the top 10.

Meanwhile, Italian champions Inter Milan are surprisingly 14th in the list, with Juventus 15th.

Furthermore, the fact that the Spanish champions Atletico Madrid are outside of the top ten and are ranked 11th on the list proves that the choices made by the supercomputer are nothing but controversial.

For example, Atalanta are ranked 12th in the table ahead of champions Inter Milan.

Meanwhile, the likes of Brighton and Hove Albion have been ranked ahead of Tottenham Hotspur. It is simply incomprehensible how the Seagulls have managed to climb above the Londoners especially given the fact that they tend to fight for survival every year.
