Bayern Munich 3-0 Barcelona: Catalan giants head to the Europa League after humiliating defeat

Jamal Musiala-Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich picked up a 3-0 win over Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League earlier tonight.

Goals from Thomas Muller, Leroy Sane and Jamal Musiala sealed an important home win for the Bundesliga giants.

Here at Anytime football, we look at the three major talking points from tonight’s contest.

Jamal Musiala – a star in the making

The 18-year-old Bayern Munich midfielder put on a splendid display for his side against Barcelona earlier tonight and he ended up on the score sheet as well.

Musiala is highly regarded across Europe and his incredible potential was on display against the Spanish giants as he managed to battle it out alongside veterans like Sergio Busquets at the heart of the midfield.

The German midfielder outperformed the likes of Frenkie de Jong and Gavi as well and he was undoubtedly one of the best players on the pitch tonight.

Barcelona are in desperate need of attacking reinforcements

The Spanish giants were comfortably beaten tonight and they failed to test the home side defensively.

Xavi Hernandez decided to start the likes of Sergino Dest and Ousmane Dembele alongside Memphis Depay in his front three and the trio barely caused a problem for Bayern Munich.

A club of their stature should be fielding better players in vital games like these and it remains to be seen whether the Spanish outfit can bring in the necessary reinforcements during the January transfer window.

Europa League shame for Barcelona

The Spanish outfit have crashed out of the Champions League group stages for the first time in 21 years and they will be heading to the Europa League now.

For a club of their stature, competing in a second rate European competition is a major disgrace and it perfectly encapsulates the scale of Barcelona’s decline over the years.

That said, the major worry for the Spanish club should be that they are not even the best team left in the Europa League and they will have to improve drastically if they want to win the competition this year.
