Dortmund 2-0 Zenit: Late goals from Sancho, Haaland secure Dortmund win

Jadon Sancho-Borussia Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund have registered their first win of UCL this season following the defeat against Lazio.

Borussia Dortmund have opened their account in the Champions League after defeating Zenit Saint Petersburg 2-0.

Dortmund had the control for most of the game however they proved to be unfortunate with their chances in the final third.

Gio Reyna had an early sight at goal before his left-footed strike flew just over the post. Marco Reus had his shot denied by the goalkeeper and Erling Haaland fired his shot wide uncharacteristically during the 1v1 with Zenit goalkeeper.

Reus also had his shot denied by the woodwork at the start of the second half and Zenit were happy to contain Die Borussen for the remainder of the game.

However, Jadon Sancho broke the resistance after giving his side the lead through a penalty goal.

It was Sancho’s first goal of the season after being goalless in four of the Bundesliga games.

Haaland concluded the game once and for all after scoring the second goal in the injury time.

Dortmund thoroughly deserved the win for all the efforts they put in the game. On the other hand, Zenit were seen in their defensive third for the majority of the game.

Lucian Favre’s men have now responded with a win after their 2-0 defeat against Lazio, not the start they could have hoped for.

Dortmund also won the derby against Schalke in Bundesliga last weekend after a fine performance.
