Ralf Rangnick promotes Manchester United youth against Young Boys, impresses fans with approach and intensity

Manchester United were held to a 1-1 draw against Young Boys in the UEFA Champions League earlier tonight.

The Premier League giants had already secured their place in the knockout rounds of the competition before heading into tonight’s game and the matchup against the Swiss outfit was a mere formality for Ralf Rangnick‘s side.

The German decided to switch things up and rest some of his key players keeping in mind the hectic festive schedule ahead.

The 63-year-old decided to start young talents like Anthony Elanga, Amad Diallo and Mason Greenwood tonight and he will be relatively pleased with the performance of the youngsters.

Mason Greenwood gave Manchester United a dream start with a goal on the 9th minute and although the Red Devils conceded towards the end of the first half, the young and inexperienced starting line-up did well to cope with the opposition for the remainder of the contest.

Out of favour, Dutch midfielder Donny van de Beek was given a start as well but he made an error that led to a goal. 

The likes of Shola Shoretire, Zidane Iqbal and Charlie Savage were given a run out in the second half as well and Manchester United fans seemed quite impressed with Rangnick’s intention to promote youth.

Rangnick’s decision gave the young talents at the club some much-needed exposure and it could certainly aid their development in the long run. 

Furthermore, there was a lot to be optimistic about in terms of tactics and approach as well.

The Manchester United youngsters played with freedom against Young Boys and the urgency in their play will have impressed the fans at Old Trafford.

The change in approach and the switch to a more aggressive attacking style is definitely a sign of things to come under Ralf Rangnick.

On the evidence of tonight’s performance,  it certainly seems like the Old Trafford faithful can be excited about the next few months under the new German manager.
