Denmark international Christian Eriksen collapsed on the pitch earlier today during the Euro 2020 encounter with Finland

The Inter Milan midfielder had to be administered emergency CPR by his teammates first and then the medical professionals.

According to the latest reports, the midfielder has been shifted to a hospital now and he is stable. The Inter star was awake and breathing when he left the pitch and he has spoken to his teammates through a video call after.

Eriksen’s incident is reminiscent of the Fabrice Muamba situation a few years ago. The Bolton midfielder collapsed on the pitch and he was unconscious for a period of around 78 before the medics managed to resuscitate him.

 Simon Kjaer’s quick thinking

Danish captain Simon Kjaer was the first to run to his teammate and administer CPR. He also ensured that the midfielder’s air pathway was clear. Later on the defender was seen consoling Eriksen’s wife along with Kasper Schmeichel.

Anthony Taylor quick to react

The referee was quick to react and he stopped the game immediately so that Eriksen could receive treatment from the specialists.

Taylor realized the gravity of the situation and made his decision instantly. Those extra seconds could have easily played a big part in the midfielder’s revival.

UEFA statement and match resumption

UEFA announced that the match would be postponed following Eriksen’s incident but they decided to resume the contest after talks with both sets of players.

Danish manager has revealed that they were given two options – to play the game today or tomorrow. The players chose to get the contest out of the way despite their fragile mental state.
