Denmark had the last laugh against Rob Page’s Welsh side in the first round of 16 game of Euro 2020.

Denmark‘s fairy tale run in Euro 2020 continues as they have comprehensively defeated Wales 4-0 to progress to the quarter-finals of Euro 2020.

After scoring a match-winning double, Kasper Dolberg grabbed the headlines as he enjoyed a great return to Amsterdam Arena.

The former Ajax star struck first in the 27th minute before adding another one shortly after the second half commenced, pouncing on a defensive lapse from the Welsh’s defence.

Joakim Maehle and Martin Braithwaite sealed the game for Denmark with back to back goals in the final minutes while things aggravated for the hapless Welsh side, who saw nothing but Harry Wilson receive a red card.

Wales looked like fish out of water for the entirety of the game as they hardly troubled Danish goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel.

The win puts the Danes in the last eight while it is the end of the road for Rob Page’s side in the European Championship.

Dolberg shines at the biggest stage

Kasper Dolberg repaid manager Hjulmand’s faith in him by turning up in the crucial round of 16 tie. The OGC Nice striker started ahead of Poulsen but put in a shift in the attack, scoring a double, and the first one was the best of them. He might have endured a not-so-great season in Ligue 1, but he showcased his potential when the Danish side needed him the most. Furthermore, it was a great return to Amsterdam since he had previously played for Ajax. Dolberg also became the first player to score twice in a game in Euros since Nicklas Bendtner in 2012.

Wales looked like a fish out of water

Wales had a decent group stage campaign, and many predicted the game against Denmark would be a balanced one. However, the Welsh side proved us wrong as the Danes proved too good for them. From succumbing to the high press to defensive collapses – Neco William’s erratic clearance for the second goal was one of many; Rob Page’s side lacked the conviction and were found in low confidence. Talking about the attack, Aaron Ramsey, Gareth Bale, and Daniel James failed to step up.

Denmark’s dream run in Euro 2020 continues

Denmark have become fan-favourites ever since the tragic incident happened to Christian Eriksen. Picking up a thumping 4-1 win against Russia in a must-win game to secure their place in the knockouts, the Danes have followed up with a similar performance tonight. All of a sudden, the current Danish side looks more dangerous with a handful of talents, and most importantly, they are high in confidence.
