The Argentine’s contract runs out this summer, with Barca working on a contract extension.

Famed Italian Journalist Fabrizio Romano has provided an optimistic update on Barcelona‘s stance with Lionel Messi, whose contract runs out this summer.

It has been widely reported that the Argentine has agreed to a contract extension after finding president Joan Laporta‘s project more convincing.

Romano also stressed that Messi’s contract extension with Barca is down to details as the player’s entourage – his brother and his father – would soon negotiate to complete the deal.

The 34-year-old created tension among the fans after trying to force a move out of his long-time club last summer.

However, Laporta’s appointment has come at the right time, and he vowed to keep Messi for the greater good.

The Argentine talisman appears to have become fully convinced with Laporta’s works and is said to have agreed to a two-year deal.

It was quite clear that Messi had become disappointed with Barca’s lack of success over the last few years. He pointed fingers at former president Josep Maria Bartomeu for the downfall.

Laporta had achieved much fame in his previous stint at the Camp Nou, during which Barca was considered the best side in Europe under Pep Guardiola.

Laporta also made a smart move by signing free agent Sergio Aguero from Manchester City in a bid to keep Messi happy. Aguero and Messi are currently away with Argentina national team for Copa America 2021.
