Mexico will look to get the win that will qualify them for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar when they face Honduras at San Pedro Sula this Sunday.

Venue: Estadio Olímpico Metropolitano (San Pedro Sula)

Key Statistics

Honduras are winless in their last 15 competitive games in all competitions (D4, L11).

They have failed to score in three of their last four games.

The hosts have conceded 23 goals in this WCQ campaign, making them the side with the most porous defence in the CONCACAF Group.

Mexico are unbeaten in their last four WCQ games (W2, D2).

The visitors have the best away record in their group, having won ten points away from home (W2, D1, L2).

Head to head

Mexico have been dominant in this fixture as they have 26 wins from their last 46 meetings with Honduras who have managed only eight wins, and ten draws in that period.

Honduras

Honduras, who are still looking for their first win in this World Cup qualifiers campaign, will hope to do the impossible against Mexico when both sides meet at San Pedro Sula this Sunday.

The hosts come into this tie on the back of a hard-fought goalless draw with Panama and so will look to make it two games without a loss for the first time since September last year when Mexico comes visiting.

For the past eight months, they have played 15 games without winning once. A big reason for that is a poor defence that has conceded 30 times.

So the task of getting a good result here looks impossible given their form and the quality of their opponents. But with nothing to lose, they will come into this tie looking to give their best.

Possible Honduras starting line-up

Luis Lopez; Wesly Decas, Denil Maldonando, Marcelo Pereira, Marcelo Santos; Cristian Sacaza, Juan Delgado, Kervin Arriaga, Kevin Lopez; Romell Quioto, Bryan Acosta.

Injured: None

Doubtful: None

Suspended: None

Mexico

Unlike their hosts, Mexico has something to lose in this game.

The visitors can still play in the World Cup this winter but must beat Honduras to ensure that. They come into this tie on the back of a goalless draw with the USA, leaving them level on points with their North American rivals who are occupying the second spot.

With two games to play, a big win in this game and a loss or draw for Costa Rica will grant them automatic entrance into the Qatar tournament.

As such, they will be desperate to win this game and secure their place in Qatar with a game to spare.

Possible Mexico starting line-up

Guillermo Ochoa; Jorge Sanchez, Nestor Araujo, Cesar Montes, Gerardo Arteaga; Jesus Gallardo, Edson Alvarez, Hector Herrera; Raul Jimenez, Hirving Lozano, Jesus Corona.

Injured: Andres Guardado, Rogelio Funes Mori, Julio Cesar Dominguez.

Doubtful: None
