Newcastle Jets

Newcastle Jets will look to get back to winning ways on Sunday when they welcome Adelaide United to the McDonald Jones Stadium.

The hosts come into this game on the back of a 2-1 away loss to Macarthur FC. Despite an early red card to Filip Kurto, the Bulls beat Newcastle Jets courtesy of an 80th-minute strike from James Meredith after Beka Mikeltadze had opened the scoring for the Jets and Daniel De Silva had equalised for Macarthur FC.

But before that game, Arthur Papas’ side had defeated Wellington Phoenix 4-0 at home. The win ended a run of ten home games without a win for the hosts and was also the first time they were keeping a clean sheet at home since a 1-0 win over Melbourne City in February last year.

Between February 2021 and their win over Wellington Phoenix, they played ten games and lost seven of them while conceding 17 times and scoring seven goals.

They will now look to make it two home wins in a row for the first time since August 2020, when they won four home games in a row.

They are currently sitting eleventh on the table after winning just one of their opening five games this season. A win in this game will be of uttermost importance if they want to get away from the bottom places, and Papas will be desperate for his side to put in the performance required to pick up the maximum points from this game.

Possible Newcastle Jets starting line-ups

Jack Duncan; Jason Hoffman, Riley Warland, Matthew Jurman, Dylan Murnane; Jordan O’Doherty, Kosta Grozos, Daniel Penha; Olivier Boumal, Valentino Yuel, Beka Mikeltadze.

Adelaide United

After recording their second win of the season last time out, Adelaide will travel to Newcastle looking to make it two league wins in a row for the first time since March 2021, when they won six times in a row.

The visitors beat Brisbane Roar 3-1 in their last game courtesy of a brace from Craig Goodwin, either side of a goal from Stefan Mauk after Nikola Mileusnic had opened the scoring for the hosts.

The win was enough to push Carl Veart’s side up to fifth on the table, four points behind the leaders Melbourne Victory.

A win in this tie will see them keep their place in the top half of the table and will also extend their unbeaten run in the league to five games.

Possible Adelaide United starting line-ups

Joe Gauci, Javi Lopez, Jacob Tratt, Michael Jakobsen, Ryan Kitto; Stefan MAuk, Isaias Sanchez, Jaunde Juande; Mohamed Toure, Oliviera Bernado; Lechlan Brooks.
