Cameroon

After enjoying an opening day win, Cameroon will look to take one step closer to the next round by taking home all three points when they welcome Ethiopia on Thursday.

The Indomitable Lions defeated Burkina Faso in their opening round with two penalty goals from Al Nasr Riyadh forward Vincent Aboubaker sealing a 2-1 win for the hosts who went behind after Gustavo Sangare had scored for the visitors.

The win was their fifth consecutive win for Cameroon and sent them top of Group A.

On paper, the hosts are expected to win this tie against an Ethiopian side, lying 87 places below them in FIFA rankings.

Possible Cameroon starting line-ups

Ethiopia

Ethiopia will look to get their first win in this AFCON when they face the tournament’s host Cameroon this Thursday.

They were beaten 1-0 by Cape Verde in their opening game, ending a three-game unbeaten run for them (D2, W1). They could not register a shot on target in the second half of the game following a 12th-minute red card to Yared Baye.

The visitors have not won a game in the AFCON finals game in 46 years and do not look like winning this following a poor record against top-ranked teams. The East African nation has not won against any CAF nation currently lying inside FIFA’s top 50 since the turn of the century.

Possible Ethiopia starting line-ups

Teklemariam Shanko; Suleiman Hamid, Aschalew Tamene, Mignot Debebe, Ramadan Yesuf; Mesoud Mohammed, Amanuel Yohannes, Surafel Dagnachew; Abubeker Nasser, Getaneh Kebede, Amanuel Gebremichael.
