Bayern Munich hoping to beat the transfer race for sought-after striker Erling Haaland

The Bavarians cite the Norwegian as a successor to Robert Lewandowski.

The transfer race for Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland could be intense in the upcoming transfer window as many of Europe’s top clubs are expected to battle it out for his signature.

According to a report from the Daily Mail, Bayern Munich are confident of snapping up the 20-year-old if he stays at Dortmund for one more season.

It is due to the fact that Haaland has a buyout clause of £65m in his contract, which can be activated only in the summer of 2022. Coincidently, Bayern striker Robert Lewandowski will be 33 by then.

Nonetheless, there will be no shortage of offers for Haaland this summer, with giants like Real Madrid and Manchester City are said to be unperturbed by Dortmund’s valuation in the excess of £100m.

Manchester United, Chelsea and Barcelona are also understood to be in contention for the 20-year-old, who has amassed more than 30 goals for Die Borussen this season.

However, Dortmund have no intentions of selling the former Salzburg star this summer, with chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke wanting him to stay at Signal Iduna Park next season.

‘We’ll discuss this with Erling, his father and his agent Mino Raiola in peace.

‘We also want him to stay with us, to score goals next year with conviction. There is no alternative plan.’

Bayern have to find a new striker in due time as Lewandowski would soon reach his twilight. Haaland could be next in the line after Matt Hummels, Mario Gotze and even Lewandowski to seal transfer from Dortmund to Allianz Arena.

There is a big chance of Haaland leaving this summer if Dortmund fails to land a place in the top four of Bundesliga and couldn’t win the Champions League this season. In such a case, it remains to be seen whether Bayern can shell out excessive money for the Norwegian while keeping Lewandowski by their side.

Bayern Munich are confident they will land Erling Haaland next summer if he spends one more season at Borussia Dortmund.
