The Bayern Munich striker has been chosen as the German footballer of the year.

Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski has bagged the German footballer of the year award, managing to do so for the second consecutive year.

As revealed, the 32-year-old finished with high votes ahead of his club teammate Thomas Muller and Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland.

The Polish striker enjoyed a prolific 20/21 season as he racked up 48 goals and 9 assists in all competitions for the Bavarians while also winning the European Golden shoe.

Although he managed to inspire Bayern to the Bundesliga title, Lewandowksi ended up short in the European Championship regardless of his single-handed effort for Poland during the group stage.

After receiving the award, Lewandowksi said: “I know how big this honour is. For me, it is a reason for great pride and joy, because you rarely win the title of ‘Footballer of the Year’ twice in a row in Germany.”

Lewandowski also notably broke Gerd Muller’s long-standing record for the most number of goals scored in a single season by notching up 41 goals in the Bundesliga last term.

Tuchel wins the German coach of the year award

Chelsea gaffer Thomas Tuchel has been chosen as the German manager of the year following his stellar six months spell at Chelsea.

The former PSG boss led the Blues to the Champions League title, replacing Frank Lampard in January.

Tuchel, who finished ahead of Hansi Flick and Edin Terzic, said: “I accept the award very gratefully as a great honour for the entire team because I see myself as a team player.”
