Redknapp claims, Bellingham was right to choose Dortmund over Man United

Borussia Dortmund to sign 'United target' Jude Bellingham

Jude Bellingham has been called up to the Three Lions senior team and Harry Redknapp says the youngster deserved it for joining Dortmund.

Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham has received his first call up to the England national team, which Harry Redknapp believes as a result of the 17-year-old not joining Manchester United last summer.

Bellingham was a prodigious talent at Birmingham and after his impressive debut season, transfer interests grew across Europe.

Manchester United was one of the potential suitors for the teenage midfielder but he eventually joined Die Borussen.

In his debut season thus far at Signal Iduna Park, Bellingham has become a reliable player in no time and produced a string of impressive displays – eventually leading to his first national team call up.

Former Spurs boss Redknapp believes this couldn’t have happened if Bellingham had chosen Man Utd.

Redknapp said,  “I don’t know if Jude thought he wouldn’t get a chance in the Premier League because Manchester United was supposed to be interested but he went to Borussia Dortmund.

“He’s getting more games than he probably would with United. It will be great for his development as a person too. It’s certainly paying off.”

Bellingham has made a total of nine appearances in all competitions for Dortmund this season and thrived in the central midfield role.

Earlier, following Bellingham’s debut in Bundesliga, Dortmund gaffer Lucian Favre heaped praises on the teenager.

“He was good, has to play as number six or number eight in front of the defence – that’s not easy when you’re 17. Jude was involved in almost every goal, stepped forward at the right moment. It is important that we have midfielders who can speed up the game and play the final.”
