The Catalans failed to sign their former academy star Dani Olmo on the deadline day of the transfer window.

Barcelona had reportedly attempted to sign RB Leipzig forward Dani Olmo on the deadline after submitting an offer worth 50m pounds.

However, the Bundesliga club turned down the offer as they wanted around 65m pounds for the Spanish international.

According to new reports, Barca will look to sign Olmo in the January transfer window as they have already agreed to personal terms.

The 23-year-old spent his youth career at Barca before he made his switch to Croatian club Dinamo Zagreb.

After rising to prominence at Zagreb, Olmo was often linked with a move to Europe’s top clubs including Barca, however, he decided to sign for Leipzig last year.

Olmo enjoyed a productive Bundesliga campaign last term, racking up 5 goals and 9 assists. His stock has skyrocketed following a stellar campaign in the Euro 2020, where he mustered 3 assists for the Spanish national team that ended up as the semi-finalists.

Barca have been showing interest lately in their forgotten youth stars, who had a bigger impact elsewhere. It was the case with Eric Garcia and now they are looking to reunite with Olmo.

The Blaugrana endured one of their worst years financially as they were forced to part ways with Lionel Messi due to La Liga’s salary cap concerns. In addition, they failed to make any big-money signings in the transfer window and on the deadline day, they let Antoine Griezmann leave on loan to his former club Atletico Madrid and signed Luuk de Jong on a season-long loan.
