Barcelona round-up: Latest on Eric Garcia, Mustafi, Puyol talks about Messi

Garcia announcement in January

Barcelona are reportedly looking to announce the signing of Eric Garcia in January although the Spaniard is likely to remain with Manchester City until summer.

Garcia has been heavily linked with a return to the Catalan club ever since he refused to pen a new deal at the Etihad.

Barca also failed to sign the Spanish defender last summer due to financial crisis and they could even struggle to do so in the January transfer window. Furthermore, Garcia remains a top target for Blaugrana manager Ronald Koeman, who looks desperate for defensive reinforcements in the January transfer window.

Arsenal defender to Barca

Barca could sign Arsenal centre-back Shkodran Mustafi after holding talks with his agent over a transfer this week. The German has lost his place at Emirates Stadium following the arrival of Gabriel Magalhaes in the summer.

Mustafi’s agent Emre Ozturk said, “I’m not in Barcelona because of Yusuf Demir, but because of Shkodran Mustafi from Arsenal, whom we also represent”.

Antonio Rudiger, Fabian Schar are the other targets from the Premier League whom Barca wants to sign as stop-gap options to strengthen the defence.

Puyol hails Messi as the best of all time

Former Barca legend Carles Puyol has heaped praises on Lionel Messi, calling him as the best footballer of all time. The Argentine recently broke long-standing Pele’s record for the most number of goals scored for a single club.

Puyol said, “We have been lucky to have him but I really say, taking away the feeling of being a cule, that the numbers are there, these have not been invented and they show that he is the best.”
