Cash-strapped Barcelona ready to offer Coutinho to Newcastle United this January

Barcelona are reportedly ready to accept a loan offer from Premier League side Newcastle United for Philippe Coutinho in January.

The former Liverpool midfielder has been repeatedly linked with a return to England, having struggled in Spain since his £140million move to the Nou Camp in January 2018.

According to SPORT, as reported by Dailymail, Newcastle, are interested in taking the midfielder this January. The Magpies are currently sitting in 19th place in the league after 10 games, but are expected to spend heavily in the January transfer window to push themselves back to the top following the Saudi-backed takeover of the club.

The report claims that Barcelona are desperate to move Coutinho’s wages off its wage bill this January and are willing to agree on a loan offer that includes a mandatory option to buy with Newcastle.

The 29-year-old has endured a frustrating spell at Barcelona and is thought to be surplus to requirements at the Spanish giants. Under the sacked Ronald Koeman, he featured 11 times this season but was an unused substitute in his side’s 1-0 victory over Dynamo Kyiv in the Champions League. And Sport also claims that Coutinho is unlikely to be part of Xavi’s plans.
