Diego Costa bids farewell to Atletico after terminating contract, Simeone pays tribute

Atletico 2-1 Alaves - Saul and Costa scored in Atletico win

Atletico Madrid have terminated the contract of striker Diego Costa.

Diego Costa has called it a time after asking Atletico Madrid to end his contract prematurely due to personal reasons.

The Spanish striker has had an underwhelming campaign so far due to injury setbacks and also lost his place to the summer signing Luis Suarez, who is currently relishing his partnership with Joao Felix.

Meanwhile, Colchoneros manager Diego Simeone has paid a touching tribute to the former Chelsea ace.

I am grateful to him, like all the people who gave us their hearts. Diego was one of them, as much from a sporting point of view as from a human point of view.’

We haven’t seen each other for a few days because Diego didn’t come to train while he was negotiating. Most importantly, we can hug each other when we see each other, celebrating our memories

Costa established himself as one of the best strikers when he played between 2010-2014 for Atletico. He was also part of the side that won the La Liga in 2013/14 season and Europa League in 2017.

However, his second spell at Atletico was quite a disappointment as his struggles were often manifested.

Now making himself available for transfer, the 33-year-old has caught the attention of Arsenal and Serie A champions Juventus.
